Today we headed to Cocoa Beach for an Air Show. The air show took place right off the beach over the ocean. We sat on the beach and watched the show right in front of us. The airplanes were so close - we had a great time!
The Golden Knights parachute team landed less then 100 ft from us. You could see the expressions on the jumpers faces - we were so close!
Watching the jumpers.
Another Golden Knight.
After the Golden Knights the F-18 Hornet did a demonstration and it was very loud - I was glad we had taken a headset for Miley. She didn't even mind them on - but she sure looked pretty silly!
She liked listening to her self make noise! She is so funny!
The C-130 Hercules did a demonstration on how it would fuel the Black Hawk helicopters.
The 920th Rescue Wing locally based at Patrick Air Force Base demonstrated rescue skills. They are a search and rescue wing for both military and civilian disaster relief operations. The Hercules dropped the parachuters - they are in full scuba gear and they landed in the water.
Two Black Hawk helicopters showed several different ways to rescue people out of the water. It was very impressive. Usually something you only see in the movies or on tv!
The gang on the beach. We left before the last 2 planes flew - Miley had, had enough. As we walked a couple blocks to our car we were able to watch the C-17 fly over. It is a huge plane and it actually came all the way from Seattle just for the Air Show! They pre-flighted at 2:00 a.m. to make it to the air show on time. When we were in the parking lot near our car we saw the F-16 Fighter practicing - all of sudden it was heading straight over our heads heading to the show center. It was going so fast, low and it was so loud that after it passed over there were several car alarms going off in the parking lot! The vibrations from the jet had set the car alarms off! Since we were headed to the car we didn't have the camera's out for either of these planes and are pretty bummed!
On our way home we stopped at Lansing Park in Indian Harbor and we were amazed first to see the signs to not feed the alligators and then at the amount of turtles there were! There were tons of different kinds and sizes. The boys loved it!
